Moxie Float Wins “Most Appealing”

On July 9, 2011, staff members and volunteers from the Credit Union briskly walked down Route 196 and Main Street in Lisbon Falls as part of the annual Moxie Festival Parade. Participants wore a bright orange Moxie Festival t-shirt and lightly tossed candy to parade spectators along the way. Monty Moose and a Maine lobster also made an appearance to showcase the float.

The theme for the 2011 Moxie Festival was “Moxie…it’s Maine in a bottle”. Our float featured a traditional scene that is common on the Maine coast, complete with lobster traps and buoys, a lighthouse and a lobster itself. A container of Maine blueberries and a large bag of Maine potatoes were also added to the float to represent other important themes of the state. The Credit Union is pleased to announce that the Moxie Committee awarded our float with the “Most Appealing” award for 2011.

The Moxie Festival has been held on the second weekend in July since 1983. The festival now includes a Pow Wow, Friday night fireworks, parade, festival, 5K road race, and canoe race on the Androscoggin River. Town Officials estimate that the event brings over 40,000 to the area during the three day period.
