Community Involvement

Menu

We have been a part of our community since 1959 and take an active role in aiding the residents to achieve a healthy & prosperous life. Whether it is participating in the annual Moxie Days Festival, sponsoring a D.A.R.E football game or youth sports league, we are committed to the Members of the communities we serve. Here are just a few of the ways we give back.

Rochel ‘Russ’ Livernois Memorial Scholarship Fund

In 2000, Lisbon Credit Union developed a Scholarship Fund to help our graduating seniors realize their dreams. Later that year, one of our original founders, Rochel Livernois, passed away. Mr. Livernois served as Treasurer/Manager from the Credit Union's beginning in 1959 through 1985. The scholarship fund was renamed to honor his years of service and dedication.

Each year, the Credit Union awards four $1,000 scholarships to local high school graduates. The scholarships are awarded based on academic achievements as well as community involvement. Scholarship dollars are paid directly to the schools after the completion of their first semester.

To be eligible to apply for the scholarship program, a student must:

  1. Be a graduating senior

  2. Be a Member of our Credit Union or a child of a Member

  3. Have a High School GPA of 2.50 or higher

  4. Be accepted to a 2 or 4-year accredited post-secondary school

  5. Studies must begin within 1 year of the award

2024 Scholarship Applications are now available online, at the Credit Union, or at the guidance office of local high schools by February of each year.

Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union realizes the importance of education and would like to assist four seniors each year in achieving their academic goals. We encourage all qualifying seniors to apply.

Social Responsibility

Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union has been a part of this community since 1959. Since the inception of credit unions, the motto has always been “Not for profit, not for charity, but for service”. Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union holds true to this motto by annually selecting a local recipient for a monetary donation.

Donations are presented at our Annual Meeting. Over the years we have donated to the Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO), Lisbon Emergency, Durham and Lisbon School Libraries, Technology for Local Schools, the Recreation Departments, Hope Haven Gospel Mission, St. Mary's Food Pantry, and more.

Ending Hunger Campaign

Each year, Lisbon Credit Union participates in the Maine Credit Union League’s Campaign for Ending Hunger. The campaign was established in 1990, and since then has raised an incredible $12.5 million towards ending hunger in Maine.

The unique and most rewarding aspect of this campaign is the guarantee that “100% of the money raised by credit unions stays in Maine and is distributed to hunger organizations and food pantries throughout Maine.” – Maine Credit Union League.

Statistics show that Maine is the number one state in New England that is currently food insecure.  Our local food pantries are in dire need of supplemental foods. Reports show that many food pantries in Maine are facing low supplies, leaving their shelves bare and their customers lacking a nutritious diet.

Lisbon Credit Union’s Social Responsibility Team has organized several fundraisers throughout the years on behalf of the Ending Hunger in Maine Campaign and will continue to support this worthy cause. If you want to partner with us to help end hunger, let us know by emailing events@lisboncu.org
